Hooks for Heroes was founded on giving back to those
who gave their all to defend our right to live free.
ABOUT DAV CT.
DAV helps more than one million veterans every year connect with the healthcare, disability, employment, education, and financial benefits they’ve earned. If you’re a veteran or are transitioning out of the military, DAV is here to help you and your family through a lifetime of services and support.
For nearly a century, DAV has fought for veterans. Last year alone we impacted the lives of over 1 million veterans in life-changing ways. We couldn’t assist any veterans without the generosity of caring individuals who share our mission of supporting those who have sacrificed so much to protect our freedoms. Here are some of the ways you can help our nation’s ill and injured heroes.

In 2012, Past Commodores Richard Kondub and Pat Buzzeo of the Halloween Yacht Club wanted to do something for our Veterans. They decided to start a fishing contest to raise money for a Veteran organization. In 2012 and 2013, the proceeds went to the Wounded Warrior Project. Since 2014, all proceeds went to the local Chapter 13 DAV Stamford CT “Operation Gift Cards” resulting in tremendous response from our veterans.
This has become a Community event in which our community donates all that is needed. In this way we are able to bring our wounded warriors up from Walter Reed National Military Hospital for not only a day of fishing but also bring their family members out sailing. This also includes Connecticut veterans from WWII, Korean, Vietnam, Desert Storm and all other conflicts since.
